Workday Procurement: Guided Requisitioning
Context
Reimagining the end-to-end Requisitioning experience within Workday's Spend Management product suite.
Role
Product Design Manager. Empowering, growing, and coaching a team of product designers and a UX researcher.
Timeline
2020 – 2021

Overview

I managed a small but talented team of product designers and a UX researcher focused on reimagining the Requisitioning experience in Workday's Spend Management product suite. In the enterprise procurement space, the Requisitioning UX is a crucial link between strategic sourcing and procure-to-pay workflows. Improving the end user experience was a top criteria for Workday to win business in this space.

Our goal was to evolve the product from a dated and complex enterprise interface to a modern, smart, consumer-like experience — leveraging new technology, machine learning, a brand new consumer-style look and feel, natural language processing, and more.

My Focus

As design manager, my primary focus was on empowering and growing the team as we led user research and design efforts. This involved:

Leading research strategy and design direction for a multi-year transformation of the Requisitioning experience.
Coaching and growing individual designers and researchers, and building design team culture and operations.
Partnering closely with product management and engineering to align on roadmap priorities and ensure design quality through delivery.
Advocating for user needs and driving a consumer-grade UX standard in an enterprise product context.

Impact

Pushed Workday’s UI design boundaries, shipping high quality builds on a brand new React tech stack.
Delivered the Spend product’s first in-product machine learning (AI) use cases.
I was the only design manager asked to demo designs twice a month for Workday’s EVP of Product, and I was the fist design manager ever invited to do a live demo to Workday's Executive Leadership Team and CEO.
